Did you know there are 50 million creators on YouTube? Not viewers or users, but creators! (There are one billion daily users.) That bodes very well for us as writers because there are tons of videos on craft, marketing, publishing, anything you can think of to help you be a better writer. Whether it’s a new plotting tool or simply inspiration to keep going, you can find it. I’ve compiled a list of five channels I think are a good place to get started.
1- Kim Chance, YA Author
Kim Chance is a high school English teacher and Alabama native, so we have that in common! She has a passion for helping other writers and posts writing videos regularly on her channel. When Kim is not writing, she enjoys spending time with her family and two crazy dogs, binge-watching shows on Netflix, fangirling over books, and making death-by-cheese casseroles.
2- Martha Alderson, Nonfiction & Fiction Writer
The Plot Whisperer saved my writing and really gave me a new way to think about plotting with her Plot Whisperer short video series. I totally thank Martha for that! She is an author of historical and literary fiction and non-fiction books for writers and artists, Martha Alderson was born in San Francisco, a fifth-generation Californian. She has been writing fiction for more than thirty years.
3- Ellen Brock, Freelance Editor
Do you have questions about writing great characters, plotting your novel, outlining, or finding your voice? Ellen’s videos aim to answer common novel writing questions. She is a professional freelance editor with five years of experience. Her videos are cute and extremely helpful!
4- Kristen Martin, Author with a Day Job
Do you have a day job and wonder how in the world you can do that and have a writing career? Kristen’s videos offer a solid look into that. She writes Young Adult and fantasy and has lots of tips and ideas for you. It always makes me feel better to listen to someone who is trying to do the same thing I am – write and work.
5- Joanna Penn, Author Entrepreneur
Joanna Penn’s runs a website, blog, podcast and YouTube channel called, The Creative Penn. She is my latest and most favorite find. Her YouTube Channel has a gazillion videos with so many different topics ranging from creativity to writing to publishing. If you want to do it all, she has a video for you.
